GAYLORD, MI -- Next spring, you can expect a totally different look in Downtown Gaylord if you travel through at night.
The city will replace the orange-tinted downtown lights with new, more-efficient led lights.
The city received a $50,000 grant from the State's Economic Recovery Monies and they plan to replace 86 lights on main street with new led's.
The new lights will be dark-sky compliant, and the total cost of the project will be $62,000.
"It’ll have a very different look. The light will be cooler-white light as opposed to the orange light high-pressure sodium gives, so we think we're going to see a dramatic difference in the appearance of downtown, there's no question about that," said Gaylord City Manager Joe Duff.
The new lights will also save the city an expected $5,500 a year.
The plan is to take the money saved and replace the rest of the 145 total lights in the downtown area.
