Lighting manufacturers are glowing about LED light bulbs.
The new bulbs last longer and are easier to recycle but not everyone is ready to make the switch just yet.
The LED bulb is the new rage in lighting.
So much so, they can't keep them on the shelves at Lowe's Home Improvement.
"As we are moving from the incandescent lighting, we're finding that the LED's are becoming phased in to replace all types of lights," said Frank Viscomi who works in the lighting department.
The new LED bulbs won't replace Compact Florescent Bulbs, just the old incandescent ones.
However not everyone thinks the LED light bulb is a bright idea.
"How many homes now have three way lamps? A lot of them and we bought these lamps, some are expensive. You can't adjust it. Like I said I feel like a plant in a florescent thing," said Eleanor Mele, a Lowe's customer, who likes incandescent bulbs.
Some may wonder why you would pay $20 for one light bulb when you can get eight incandescent bulbs for $5. They say with the higher price comes more benefit.
"The LED light bulb itself is engineered to last for 30,000 hours. A normal light bulb uses one thousand hours a year. You're talking about a thirty year light bulb," Viscomi said.
"Yeah they last longer, but they just don't look as good. I just don't like them," said Mele.
The other benefit is disposal. LED lights can go right in the trash, but that is not the case with CFL's
"There's a trace amount of mercury in a CFL." says Viscomi
So while many say make the switch to new LED's, others are hoping incandescents don't burn out.
"I am going to buy up as many as I can," said Mele.
