Traditional incandescent light bulbs are destined for the scrap heap in a few years, but Ikea is getting an early start at flipping the switch.
The furniture retailer, which has a store near Portland International Airport, said Tuesday that it wouldn't stock or sell incandescent bulbs any longer. It said it was acting early on the U.S. Energy Independence and Security Act, which phase out incandescent lights bulbs by 2014.
Ikea will still sell other bulbs, such as florescent, LED and halogen lights, all of which are more efficient than incandescent ones. LED lights, especially, have seen a lot of development recently — LT Solutions Inc., of Brooklyn Park, is working to patent its own design of LED bulbs
