LED installations can transform a home as such products are a "whole new world" in terms of lighting.

That is according to lighting designer brand Kandabi, who revealed that many interior designers have been using LEDs to revamp properties.

Eva Hammerson, head of design at the company, said that LED lighting has a number of different advantages.

It has "endless" interior and exterior applications, excellent credentials for energy efficiency and offers huge designing potential.

"Most residential interior designers, unless working on very contemporary projects, are still perhaps a bit reluctant to fully embrace mood lighting and to incorporate LEDs into a period property lighting scheme," Ms Hammerson added.

"This is a true missed opportunity since the right type and use of mood lighting can greatly enhance any style of property."

A recent report from Pike Research suggested that LED lighting will make up three-quarters of the US lighting market by 2010.
