The city of Lawrence will invest over $172,000 to replace 115 lights with LEDs, as part of its overall goal to improve the quality of life for the community. The installation is arranged in early June.
According to Assistant director of public works Mark Thiel, each new light costs about $1,500. They expect a 40 to 50 percent reduction in energy usage as a result of this project. They will be installing ‘monitoring meters’ to track actual usage against known cost-to-date.
