The Mall of America is giving its two parking ramps a lighting makeover this year that will cost about $3 million, saving the mall about $500,000 a year. The LED conversion is believed to be the largest in the US, which will replace 5,400 metal halide and high-pressure sodium fixtures from Acuity Brands. It will reduce energy consumption in the ramps by two-thirds, saving enough electricity to power more than 11,000 homes for a year.
In addition, it will be replaced by white light from the LEDs and the MOA grant tie a $500,000 conservation grant to the Chippewa Valley Ethanol Co. in Benson as the state's two largest awards. Installation will begin in July and should be complete by October.
