According to Taiwan government-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), its LED-lighting laboratory has won the Certification Body Testing Laboratory (CBTL) qualification after passing the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) standards��?examinations. The laboratory operated by ITRI’s Center for Measurement Standards (CMS), has become Taiwan’s first CBTL, which is created by IEC for Electrical Equipment’s (IECEE’s) CB Scheme. The scheme is the world’s first international system for mutual acceptance of test reports and certificates dealing with the safety of electrical and electronic components, equipment and products.  With the CBTL qualification, manufacturers can entry into over 45 countries. In the past, Taiwan’s LED-lighting manufacturers usually send their products verified at laboratories overseas, costing them huge amount of time and money. Nowadays, the CBTL-qualified LED-lighting laboratory will save local manufacturers time and money on product verifications as its certifications are internationally accepted, pointed out by senior officials of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). According to ITRI President J.M. Hsu, the institute, backed up by the MOEA, has set up complete testing capability and standards for the LED-lighting industry after becoming an International Commission on Illumination (CIE) member, winning certifications from U.S. Energy Star, JET of Japan, and mainland China’s National Testing Center for LED Application Products in Xiamen in addition to Taiwan government’s CNS and Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF). Now, CBTL would further sharpen competitiveness of Taiwan’s LED-lighting industry. Additionally, the center’s LED-lighting laboratory is equipped with various top-end testing and simulation systems, such as the island’s only sun-phantom tester, said by CMS Director General J.R. Wang.
