baltimoresun.com - LEDs might light up our lives is an article in the Baltimore Sun, notable in that the reporter interviews Dr. E. Fred Shubert, author of the excellent book Light Emitting Diodes.
The Sun article is a little bit lengthy and unfocused, but makes several key points about solid-state lighting:
- incandescent lamps are inefficient
- research into solid-state lighting is at an all-time high
- LEDs make sense now only in certain niches
- when solid-state lighting matures, the potential savings are enormous
Re the book, it’s really aimed at graduate level electrical engineering students. I don’t necessarily recommend it for hobbyists interested in LEDs. I’ll probably be reviewing the book in a future article.
