Numerous lighting awards given out at Lightfair 2012

               Lightfair 2012 featured four award ceremonies: the DOE’s Next Generation Luminaire winners for indoor luminaires; GE Lighting’s Edison awards, Cooper Lighting’s awards and the Lightfair Innovation awards.

Lightfair Innovation awards

Lightfair International 2012 hosted four lighting award ceremonies. The Lightfair Innovation awards are designed to exemplify the best in design and thinking as measured by an independent panel of lighting professionals. The winners included:

Cast Lighting – LED Perimeter Light – Most Innovative Product of the Year

Sensitile Systems – Fin Light Fixture – Design Excellence Award

Juno Lighting Group – WarmDim LED downlights – Technical Innovation Award

Lighting Science Group – Definity motion-activated PAR3 - Judge’s Citation Award

Fifty-three winners of the NGL competition

The Next Generation Luminaires fifty-three commercial LED indoor lighting products have been recognized for excellence by the fourth annual Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) Solid-State Lighting (SSL) design competition. Among the winners, three companies, Intense Lighting, Albeo Technologies and Lithonia Lighting, were awarded Best in Class designation. More details on all the awards presented are provided here.

GE Lighting presents Edison awards

The 29th annual Edison awards took place on May 8 at Lightfair International. The competition involves the predominant use of GE Lighting products.

The 2011 GE Award was presented to Glenn Heinmiller, Paul Zaferiou and Dan Weissman of Lam Partners for lighting the United States Institute of Peace in Washington DC. The building features T5 fluorescent lamps throughout and other fluorescent, ceramic metal halide lights, occupancy sensing and daylight sensing control.

The award ceremony also included several Awards of Merit, Awards of Excellence, an Award for Environmental Design, an Award for Residential Design and a Special Citation. More details are provided here.

Cooper announces Source award winners

Also on May 8, Cooper Lighting announced winners of its 35th annual national lighting design competition. The competition focuses on furthering the understanding, knowledge and function of lighting as a primary element in design and requires the primary and predominant use of Cooper Lighting products.

Top honors in the Professional Commercial Category went to Focus Lighting, Inc, New York, NY, and a design team for the lighting of The Chandelier lounge and bar located at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Focus Lighting was also honored with an Award of Recognition for the lighting of the Dinosaur Hall at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, California.

In the Professional Residential Category, top honors went to Robert Singer and Jason Diaz of Robert Singer and Associates, Basalt, Colorado, for the lighting design of a townhome located in Vail, Colorado.
