Korean manufactures Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are preparing to launch their O
LED TVs on the market and the competition between the two electronic leaders are seeing increased.
Sources said that the competition stems from pricing and specifications such as color reproduction. While Samsung has not stated a definitive launch date for its 55-inch ES9500 model, it is expected to launch sometime in second half of 2012 and is reported to have a price tag of 10 million Korean won (US$8,760) while LG's 55-inch EM9600 model is not expected to hit the market until 2013.
Samsung's TV uses a series of red, green, and blue sub-pixel O
LEDs to create pictures, while LG uses white O
LEDs overlaid by red, green, and blue filters in addition to filter-free white O
LED sub-pixels. Both companies are reportedly claiming superiority with their models.
More so, Samsung's ES9500 TV is reported to have a 0.3-inch depth, which is about a third as thin as the skinniest
LED TVs, but still nearly doubles that of the LG's 0.157-inch (4mm) depth on its model, making LG's claim that it has the upper hand on size.
However, the claims in support for Samsung's O
LED TV is that it can adjust its self-emitting pixels, can
light up images in dark areas, has two channels that can be played at the same time in Full-HD, and has voice and gesture control. Samsung will also put out 60-75 inch models as well in the future in order to attempt dominating the high-end, large-sized TV market.
Due to the high prices of O
LED TVs, an estimated shipment amount of 500,000 in 2012 is expected and the market will need until 2015 before shipments top 10 million.
