Robe’s new LEDBeam 100 fixtures made their UK touring debut on the Happy Mondays recent three week outing. The shows feature lighting designed by Dave Farmer of THC Design. Leeds based Zig Zag Lighting supplied the equipment for the major shows, including Manchester MEN Arena and three sold out Brixton Academy’s. The iconic Manchester alt rock / ravers group, the Happy Mondays, returned to live performance with an original line up for the first time in 19 years.
Shaun Ryder, Rowetta and the gang - including Bez with his penchant for crazed maniacal dancing, belted out a tremendous performance. They received excellent reviews and recaptured some of the massive energy and anarchy of the MADchester music scene circa. the late 1980s and early 1990s …. before it evaporated into a haze of acid house euphoria. The lighting rig included LEDBeam 100s, 13 x Robe ROBIN 600 Spots, 12 x LEDWash 600s and a selection of generics. The lights were rigged on two overhead trusses, on six different height vertical towers onstage and on the deck.
Farmer’s design was based raving design, with dramatic beams, large bombastic looks, flashing and strobing to atmospherically engineer the mood, as the band stormed through classic anthems including ‘Loose Fit’, ‘Hallelujah’ ’24 Hour Party People’, and ‘Step On’
