Toshiba to shut down four lighting plants in Japan

Toshiba Lighting & Technology (TLT), a subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation, has released a schedule, according to which, its four lighting plants in Nagai, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Yamagata will be shut down by the end of March, 2013.
 
Nagai factory is major in producing LED bulbs and incandescent lights for special use. Tsukuba factory is dedicated in manufacturing lighting production for residential application. Ibaraki factory is engaged in making metal parts/resin parts for lighting products. Yamagata factory mainly supplies power circuit.
 
According to the company, after closing these factories, it will move the capacity to Kanuma factory and kunshan factory of China. In addition, to improve its competitiveness, TLT factory in Japan will focus on making products for special orders and factory in China will be responsible for general lighting products.
 
Currently, the company has seven plants in total. TLT’s 2011 annual revenue was 193.6 Japanese billion yen. The company has targeted to increase its revenue in 2014 to 260 Japanese billion yen.
