miotec, a Japan-based OLED lighting panel maker co-founded by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, ROHM, Toppan Printing and Mitsui, plans to launch the new OLED lighting P06 series with brightness efficiency of 28lm/W in August 2012. The five products in the series will be priced around JPY13,000-40,000/unit (US$165-508/unit), according to the firm.
According to studies, the global OLED lighting output value in 2011 was JPY1 billion. This figure is expected to expand to JPY500 billion by 2030. Lumiotec expects revenues in 2015 to increase to JPY10 billion and targets 2020 revenues to reach JPY50 billion due to optimistic view on the development of OLED lightings.
Taiwan-based Lextar has showcased OLED lighting products, but as the price of OLED lightings remain high, the firm currently has no plan for commercial production.
Taiwan-based LED chipmaker Epistar believes in the long-run, OLED products might compete with LED products in the lighting market, but due to factors such as brightness efficiency, price and lifespan, it will be difficult for OLED products to completely replace LED lighting products.
