sionox, Changhong and many other Chinese panel makers have set up an OLED industry alliance with the aim of bolstering AMOLED TV sales and keeping abreast of Korea-, Taiwan-, and Japan-based OLED makers in the panel industry.
Sources said China-based panel makers feel AMOLED is the next wave of panel technology and that it will be used as the standard for portable media players, digital cameras and picture frames, portable gaming devices and tablets in the future.
At present, Samsung Electronics and LG Display are the two largest makers of AMOLED panels, which will be used in 55-inch TVs that both of the makers plan to put out later in 2012. Since the announcement of the companies' decisions to move towards AMOLED production, other Asia-based panel makers such as Japan Display, Sony, Panasonic, AUO, CMI along with many others have begun constructing AMOLED plants, or have begun producing the technology mostly for small- and medium-sized panels.
China is not to be left behind in the competition for AMOLED market share and China-based panel players feel the technology will give them a new footing in the global panel industry, added sources.
