The expensive and large device takes a full range of light measurements. The integrating sphere is limited by its size as to where it can be used. Also, the portable light testing devices that existed were very limited in what they could measure. Labsphere hopes that this has changed that with its new product, the illumine lite.

Labsphere based in North Sutton, New Hamshire USA, recently introduced a portable version of its illumia LED and light measurement product range called the illumia lite. According to Labsphere, the portable system packages the accuracy of sphere-based measurement in a cost-effective handheld device suitable for use on the production floor, in the lab or in the field.
