uson-ji, a Buddhist temple and UNESCO World Heritage Site in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, recently got an LED makeover with LED lighting and a photovoltaic power system donated and installed by Toshiba Group.
The lighting will be switched on at a ceremony at the temple on Sept. 22. Lighting engineers from Toshiba Group companies designed and developed non-intrusive fixtures and lighting for the hall.
Chuson-ji in Tohoku, and it is the most famous of five sites making up the Hiraizumi World Heritage Site, a complex of temples and gardens. The temple, which dates to the 12th century, is best known for the Konjikido, the Golden Hall. The region devastated by the March 2011 earthquake, which is still working for full recovery from the disaster. In providing LED lighting and renewable power for Chuson-ji, Toshiba said it hopes to encourage more tourists to visit the wider Tohoku region.
