uncilors of Sudbury voted on Tuesday that the city will spend almost $1 million, along with some provincial grant money, to install 1,300 of the energy efficient bulbs across the city to speed up the switchover to LED streetlights. The move could save the city about $90,000 annually.
The new LED bulbs only replace a fraction of the 14,000 streetlight bulbs in Greater Sudbury. The city plans to gradually switch over the remaining streetlights as the old bulbs burn out.
Meanwhile, North Bay is aiming to save $200,000 each year by completely switching all its streetlights to LED by the end of 2012.
