Siemens ITS has contracted with the city of San Ramon to perform the second phase of its light-emitting diode (LED) streetlight conversion project. The second phase will deliver highly energy efficient LEDs replacement of over 4,300 city-owned pressure sodium lights. When the project is complete, it will reduce the City of San Ramon’s energy costs by over 50 percent, improve lighting performance and require less maintenance.

The second phase of the lighting upgrade project will include approximately 2,600 city-owned cobra head streetlights, 1,200 decorative lamps, 300 illuminated street names signs, 200 parking lot lights and 50 pedestrian crossing signals.

“Improved lighting will provide the residents of San Ramon with a safe and comfortable environment while allowing the city to significantly save on their energy costs and to reduce greenhouse emissions in the process,” said Terry Heath, president, Mobility and Logistics division, Siemens Infrastructure & Cities. “Siemens is excited to work with cities like San Ramon in making these important infrastructure improvements that require very little capital investment but have a big impact for its residents.”

The contractor began the installation during the final weeks of September, and will begin work along the roadways October through December to complete the installation of all remaining City-owned fixtures and lighting throughout the City. The project is estimated to be completed by the end of December 2012.
