Patent has become a behind-the-scenes weapon midst enterprise competition in industries, LED lighting is no exception. Industry insiders indicate that core technologies concerning LED lighting are dominated by some European countries nowadays, it’s likely that those overseas industry giants will accuse indigenous small and medium-sized LED lighting enterprises of patent infringement in the next two or three years.    
 
Recently, Chancheng distrct, Foshan has been listed as the forefront to launch national patent insurance campaign; the insured enterprises will be entitled to government subsidies. Meanwhile, government will help enterprises guard against possible intellectual properties infringements with marketing approaches. Enterprises that have their patented products insured in the future will be eligible for government subsidies on benchmark premium, if infringed on patent issues; they could be compensated with a maximum of 90 times the amount of the insurance.           
 
Unlike previous standards, amount of the claim settlement is raised from 6 times the insurance fee to a minimum of 15 times, and a maximum 90 times the insurance fee, no upper/lower limit is set on the quantity of insurance. Furthermore, to undertake guidance on issues like patent dispute and patent safeguarding, Chancheng district sets up two organizations composed of experts accordingly.   
 
Experts say enterprise itself should not only enhance self-protection awareness but also ‘stick together’ to cope with possible disputes in addition to governmental guidance.
