Lighting Science Group recalls LED lightbulbs due to fire hazard

Lighting Science Group, the world's leading manufacturers of energy efficient LED lighting bulbs and fixtures, has announced to recall 554000 LED light bulbs sold under the brand names Definity, EcoSmart, Sylvania, and Westinghouse. 
 
Eight instances of the bulbs associated with visible smoke or fire have been reported.  A total of 68 product failures have been reported, including damage to light sockets, melted fixtures, burned flooring, damaged to a circuit and damage to a lamp.
 
The bulbs were made in China, with a small number of them undergoing final assembly in Florida or Mexico, in various months during 2010 and 2011.  They were sold at various retailers including hardware, lighting and electrical supply stores.
