oul Semiconductor has announced the MJT 4040 packaged LED, a high-voltage, multi-emitted LED that can be paired with Seoul's Acrich AC-drive technology and targets outdoor solid-state lighting (SSL) applications such as street lights. It features a 64V forward voltage and is intended to extend Seoul's Acrich family of LEDs into high-power applications.
Driven at 64V and 20 mA, the MJT 404 delivers 200 lm at a 5000K CCT, and delivers efficacy of 140 lm/W. Seoul will offers the LED over a range of 4200K to 6000K, all with a CRI of 70. By doubling the drive current you can realize flux output around 360 lm.
In the intended street light application, Seoul proposes paring the MJT 4040 LEDs with an Acrich driver IC that operates directly from the AC line. As the nearby photo illustrates, Seoul compares the 6×

mm IC that is mounted directly on the LED light engine to the driver required in DC applications that Seoul says weights 2-3kg. The company also said that the AC-drive implementation eliminates the need for an electrolytic capacitor –

Seoul said that it had already won a major street-light, retrofit project in China with the new LEDs. "
