Philips LED 100W-equivalent bulb first to be Energy Star qualified
Authors£º Updated£º2013/4/7 8:43:59 Hits£º466´Î

Philips announced that the company’s LED 100-watt equivalent bulb, the Philips LED 22-watt, is now ENERGY STAR qualified. Designed to replace a 100 watt incandescent bulb while reducing energy consumption by more than 75 percent and lasting 25 times longer, the Philips LED 22-watt offers the industry’s highest light output at nearly 1800 lumens. The Philips bulb is the first LED 100-watt equivalent to achieve ENERGY STAR qualification, making it eligible for utility rebates. For commercial customers, this will help lower initial acquisition costs and accelerate return on investment.

The Philips LED 22-watt offers a warm 2700K color temperature that closely mimics the light output of conventional bulbs. Next-generation, high-power LUXEON LEDs, developed specifically to support the 100-watt innovation, enable the bulb to exceed the stringent ENERGY STAR performance criteria. Those specifications require that the lamp deliver at least 1600 lumens, color rendering index (CRI) of 80 and a rated life of 25,000 hours. In addition to offering familiar soft white light, the Philips LED 22-watt fits into existing fixtures and works with standard dimmers, giving customers a simple, long-lasting solution for the retail or hospitality sector.

The 100-watt incandescent occupies nearly 5 percent of the 4.4 billion sockets found in the US alone. Switching to this LED replacement has the potential to reduce energy use by nearly 16 million megawatts in one year alone for a potential cost savings of more than $1.5 billion. According to Philips estimates, using the LED replacement could also eliminate 11 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually, or the equivalent of removing over 2 million cars from the road.

This latest Philips LED bulb joins the industry’s most comprehensive portfolio of ENERGY STAR qualified LED retrofit bulbs that can efficiently replace traditional incandescents. The LED 100-watt equivalent becomes the latest in industry firsts for Philips, which include the first ENERGY STAR certified 60-watt and 75-watt equivalents, as well as the Philips L Prize bulb, the world’s brightest, most energy-efficient 60-watt replacement.

The new Philips LED 22-watt is dimmable and has a rated life of 25 times longer than a standard incandescent bulb. Over its lifespan, it could save a business about $214 per bulb. The bulb will also provide a substantial return on investment through extended bulb life and reduced energy and maintenance costs.
